Traditional extension to locally listed building – Chelmsford
We were recommended to this new client by a neighbour, on whose house we had recently completed works. The new clients wanted to replace their tired and ill planned kitchen / garage with a spacious kitchen, linking to the garden, and a new wine store. The house also needed substantial underpinning.
We planned a scheme that provided a new wine-cellar as part of the underpinning.
The new kitchen has a vaulted ceiling and ridge mounted roof light that fills the space with light.
- Locations : Chelmsford, Essex
- Added value: We provided the clients with several options each of which fulfilled their brief. We consulted with the conservation officer and received his enthusiastic support for the extension of this locally listed building.
- Materials : Handmade bricks and slate to match the host building
- The team :
- • New bricks : We worked with H G Matthews to select and have produced handmade wood fired bricks to match the original house.
- • Brick repair and cleaning : We worked with H G Matthews to select and have produced handmade wood fired bricks to match the original house.
- What we love : The bricklayers did a great job matching coursing, bond and mortars so that the extension is indistinguishable from the original house. The design developed from the clients own ideas to exceed their expectations.
